Dear Journal, This week has been a delicious blur of sugar, butter, and way too many taste tests. Baking my birthday cake has become a bit of a tradition—one that started more out of stubbornness than sentimentality. But now? Now it’s sacred. There’s something so comforting about creaming butter and sugar while my favorite playlist plays and flour dusts the counters like snow. This year’s cake had to be extra. A little sparkle, a little sass, and a whole lot of frosting. I pulled out all the stops—two kinds of sponge, layers of ganache, a mascarpone swirl that almost made me cry from joy (and also from the mess). There was piping. There were edible pearls. There was me, dancing in fuzzy socks between cooling racks. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. But it was mine. Sweet, celebratory, and full of love. And I think that’s kind of the point. The kitchen hummed with activity and anticipation—and maybe a few minor cupcake casualties—but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now, onto the next step: finding the dress to match this frosting energy. Sugar-dusted and proud, Alex
