Dear Journal, Tonight felt like it was plucked straight from a romantic movie—fitting, since Singing in the Rain was the centerpiece of the evening. Ryan invited me over to his place, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. His backyard turned out to be a little slice of magic: lanterns hung above cozy seating, a firepit crackling gently in the corner, and a big outdoor screen set up to watch the movie. It was charming and unexpected, just like him. Before we even started the film, I got to meet Benny, Ryan’s beagle. Benny wasted no time winning me over, his floppy ears and big, curious eyes instantly melting my heart. I think he sensed I was a dog person because by the end of the night, he was curled up right next to me, tail wagging whenever I looked his way. As the movie played, the sky began to darken. A few drops of rain quickly turned into a light shower, but instead of running inside, Ryan turned to me with that mischievous grin of his and said, “How about we make the most of it?” I couldn’t help but laugh as he pulled me up and led me out into the rain. The air was cool, but the moment felt warm—his hand in mine, the sound of rain falling all around us, and the music from the movie still playing softly in the background. And then it happened: right there in his backyard, under a canopy of rain and lantern light, we danced. It was clumsy and playful, with both of us laughing like kids who didn’t care about getting soaked. At one point, he spun me around, and when I stumbled a little, he caught me, holding on just a beat longer than necessary. It was then that he kissed me. Soft and sweet, like the rain itself, but with enough spark to make my heart skip a beat. For a moment, the world around us seemed to disappear—just the two of us, drenched and grinning like fools, caught in a moment that felt like it was written just for us. As we eventually made our way back to the covered patio, Benny trotted over to us with a look that seemed to say, “Are you two done acting ridiculous?” We dried off, laughed about how soaked we were, and ended the night with warm blankets and leftover popcorn by the fire. If this is what it feels like to chase the rain, I’m all in. Catch you later, Alex
