Dear Journal, It’s hard to believe the week of dance classes is over. What started out as an unexpected surprise from Marco turned into a beautiful experience I didn’t see coming. I’ve never thought of myself as a dancer, but by the end of this week, something about it just clicked. Not just the dance moves, but the feeling of being completely in the moment, of letting go, and allowing myself to trust—both the process and my partner. This week wasn’t just about learning how to salsa or sway through the Bossa Nova. It was about learning to let myself relax, to stop overthinking every step, and to embrace the moments that feel right, even if they don’t go exactly as planned. Marco helped with that. His easygoing nature balanced my need to control every move, and somewhere along the way, I found myself loosening up, both on and off the dance floor. I think what I’ll take from this month most is the reminder that it’s okay to be vulnerable and have fun. Dancing with someone requires trust in a way I hadn’t expected—it made me feel like I didn’t always have to have the next step figured out. That sometimes, it’s okay to let someone else take the lead, even if just for a little while. The studio, with its warm music and the lingering scent of flowers and wood, felt like a little escape from reality. Every day was a chance to lose myself in the rhythm and the closeness of the moment. It was more than just learning choreography—it was about learning to be present, to let go of the need for perfection, and just enjoy. As we finished the final class and stepped outside into the cool evening air, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of gratitude. The month had been more than I bargained for. It wasn’t just about Marco or the dance—it was about what it made me realize about myself. That I can be spontaneous. That I can take a chance and step into something new, something different, and come out the other side with a sense of fulfillment. We grabbed a coffee after the last class and didn’t talk much about what came next. It didn’t matter. What mattered was that this month had given me something I hadn’t known I needed—a chance to just be, to enjoy, to connect, and to remember that life is made up of these fleeting moments of joy. And when they come, you have to let them in, even if they’re brief. Tonight, as I write this, I feel lighter. More at ease. I’m grateful for the dance, for Marco, for the music, and for the way it all came together in this unexpected yet perfect way. It’s been a summer to remember. Catch you later, Alex xoxo
