Dear Journal, Tonight was a bit of a déjà vu moment—it turns out Marco’s surprise date was taking me for a dance class being taught by the people from the fair! I didn’t realize he was up for round two of our clumsy footwork, but I guess that’s part of the fun. Returning to the place where our steps were so out of sync and turning it into something that now feels... different. As we’ve reached the end of the week, I’ve found myself really enjoying it and making progress. And so has Marco. As we stepped onto the dance floor, the studio was filled with the warm hum of Latin music. The air had that faint scent of wood polish and something sweet—maybe the dance teacher, Miss Olivia’s perfume, or the smell of the poppy’s that decorated the studio. We started with salsa, and as Marco placed his hand on my back, something shifted. His touch was so inviting, his palm pressing lightly against the small of my back as he pulled me closer, guiding me through the rhythm. For the first few minutes, I focused on my feet, trying not to trip over his shoes—but then I got lost. Lost in his eyes, in the warmth of his arms, in the rhythm we were swaying to. There was a moment where everything else just faded away. The music, the people around us... wait, where was I? His hand tightened slightly, pulling me closer, and I felt the soft pressure of his fingertips as we moved together. My heart raced, but not from nerves or uncertainty this time—it was something else entirely. I let myself melt into him, trusting his lead, our steps flowing more naturally now. The room felt smaller, warmer, like we were in our own little world. Every spin, every step, brought me deeper into that feeling of connection. At one point, Miss Olivia switched to the Bossa Nova. Marco’s hand found mine, and without missing a beat, he spun me. The world tilted slightly, but I wasn’t dizzy—I was caught up in the heat of the moment. The lights above us blurred, and for a second, I felt like I was floating. And then, moments later, I was on the floor. Apparently, I’m not as coordinated as I’d hoped! After the class, we stepped outside into the cool evening air. The smell of rain mixed with freshly baked bread from the café across the street. Marco and I didn’t need to say much as we sat on a bench, catching our breath. I rested my head against his chest, feeling the rise and fall of his breathing. It’s funny how something as simple as dancing—something I never thought I’d be good at—has turned into this. Into us. The night was hot, but the real heat came from the way we moved together, how natural it felt to let go and just be in the moment with him. I didn’t want the night to end. Catch you later, Alex xoxo
